How to Compress LiFePO4 Battery Cells Correctly?

What is the reason for compressing LiFePO4 battery cells?

The aim is to avoid the delamination of the internal components.

Delamination can result in a shortened battery life and impose additional stress on the electrical terminals.
The internal forces are constantly exerted on the thin aluminum casing, which lacks sufficient strength to withstand these forces.
The absence of compression may cause damage to LiFePO4 battery cells, like swelling, and lead to premature battery failure.
Appropriately increasing the external pressure can effectively prolong the lifespan of LiFePO4 battery cells.

This can also be clearly seen from the specifications of the EVE LF280N.

The standard test environment is set up under the condition of using a 300kgf fixture.

How to Make a Cell Compression Fixture
There are two straightforward ways to make DIY fixtures.
1. Using Short Boards and Tapes
You can choose a wooden board or a hard plastic board to serve as the end plate.

Firstly, use the tape to fasten the cells.

Then place the boards (either wooden or hard plastic ones) on both sides and secure them with tape.

2.Threaded Rods and End Plates

Threaded rods are available for purchase at your local hardware store.
Employ threaded rods along with end plates to tighten up the battery.
Moreover, you can incorporate coil springs, additional reinforcements and numerous other approaches to fabricate a compression fixture that offers smoother and more uniform compression.

There are many Lithium Iron Phosphate battery suppliers, but DeligreenLTO provides you brand new grade A+ cells.
